The Top Selling Vinyls Of This Year

The vinyl industry has taken off massively over the last five years or so. It used to be something that was a hobby for middle-aged men, but these days it seems like everybody is a collector. The sound quality is arguably better and there’s something quite romantic about searching the shelves of thrift shops to find albums. Most of it is junk but it’s a great feeling finding a diamond in the rough. When the vinyl boom first started, it was all about the second-hand albums in the old record shops. But since it’s become so popular, there are a lot of new albums being printed and people are leaning more towards buying new. So, what are the biggest selling albums of this year so far?

Divide – Ed Sheeran

It’s no surprise that Ed Sheeran’s latest album is on the list. When it was first released, he held over half of the spots on the top ten singles list. He’s already sold 1.4 million copies of the album in total and shows no sign of slowing down, he’s also topped the worldwide streaming charts.

Back To Black – Amy Winehouse

This one is a bit more surprising considering it was released ten years ago. Often considered one of the greatest albums released in the last twenty years, it is still selling in massive numbers following Amy Winehouse’s untimely death six years ago.

Legacy – David Bowie

As soon as he passed, David Bowie’s latest album, Blackstar flew off the shelves and within a day or so, you couldn’t get a copy anywhere. Since then, Legacy has been released. The compilation, spanning his fifty-year career, features the highest selling vinyl single of the year. Listening to this on a good quality turntable from somewhere like vinylvintage.net is a must, it is the only way to experience the brand new, never before heard version of ‘Life On Mars?’ Expect to have trouble finding a copy of Legacy any time soon.

Rumours – Fleetwood Mac

When it was first released, there was a copy of Rumours in almost every home. There are so many of them floating about, it’s easy to get a copy in any record store out there. It’s fairly shocking, therefore, that people are still going out in their droves to buy a brand new copy. Sales have been boosted by the band’s recent reformation and tour, playing together in that original line-up for the first time since they released the album.

Abbey Road – The Beatles

The Beatles will probably never fall out of fashion. With every new generation, they seem to pick up more fans and all of their albums are still flying off the shelves. After a long wait, The Beatles music was finally added to streaming services in 2015, but people seem to still have a keen interest in buying their albums on Vinyl.

Guardians Of The Galaxy – Awesome Mix 1

The smash hit, Guardians Of The Galaxy was adored by fans for so many reasons, not least the  great eighties inspired soundtrack. The mixtape put together by Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, cut together with the rest of the film’s score, was released on vinyl when the movie came out. Nobody could have predicted its success but it’s become one of the biggest selling vinyl of this year.
