Five-star 2016 wing Terrance Ferguson verbally committed to Sean Miller and the Arizona Wildats on Wednesday.
“I have a lot of trust in coach Miller,” Ferguson told Scout in an exclusive interview. “He coached me at USA. He believed in me. He played me in the right style. They play the same style, run and gun. I love the style of play and just I love coach Miller as a coach.”
Originally an Alabama pledge, Ferguson backed off his commitment on March 1st. Since reopening his recruitment, a host of schools got involved and he set a list of six finalists – Arizona, Baylor, Kansas, Maryland, N.C. State and North Carolina.
Ferguson told Scout he knew Arizona was the place for him after a couple of conversations with Miller.
“Just from talking to coach Miller and even before the visit, I just talked to coach Miller and he talked me through everything and about how I would fit in and I just felt like it would be a perfect place for me,” he said.
Ferguson, Scout’s No. 13 overall prospect, took an official visit to Arizona the weekend of March 27th.
“The visit went pretty good,” he said. “I spent a lot of time with the players. I was glad they were there to see me. It was good to see coach Miller off the court and not sweating out of his shirt. He was just relaxed and having fun, so it was good to see him.”
With the addition of Ferguson, Arizona jumps to No. 3 in Scout’s recruiting class rankings with four five-star prospects. Ferguson, who is ranked the highest of the group, joins Kobi Simmons, Rawle Alkins and Lauri Markkanen to make up their 2016 class.
“Me, Kobi and Rawle have been talking about this for a while,” Ferguson said. “They’ve been coming at me heavy since I put Arizona on my list. I think we have a pretty good class, plus Allonzo [Trier] coming back and the players that are already there, so we have a good class.”
Ferguson is regarded as the No. 5 small forward in the class. Ferguson recently was the top performer in the Nike Hoop Summit game, where he torched the nets for seven three-pointers and 21 points.
