Your Business, Your Way: Building Your Own Office

So you have your own business, whether it’s brand new or you’ve had it for a while now – you think it may be time to open your own offices. Well, this can work greatly to your advantage as it will not only put you in face to face contact with your customers and clients (as a pose to it being virtual) But you increase the chances of getting more business because people will pass by your doors everyday, opening more opportunity.

When it comes down to the design aspect, it is extremely important to get it right. Sometimes when searching for an office space to rent, it’s hard to find exactly what you want, meaning you end up settling for something. But the advantages of building your own office from scratch mean that you have complete control over the end result.

Here are some tips on how to stay ‘in the know’ of the latest office building trends.

Don’t go open plan

Sure, open plan offices look super modern and trendy, plus they’re not as expensive as other designs, but they don’t seem to work out as people had hoped them to. From an employee’s point of view, open layouts tend to be more distracting, so your attention span is shortened. This is because you can see everything from every angle, so the moment you look up from your computer screen, you can see Jane talking to Phil, while Matt is making a coffee, which reminds you how thirsty you are – oh and what are you having for dinner again?

– Having a little more privacy when trying to get on with your work will be a lot more efficient and productive.

A safe environment

If you want your employees to feel comfortable in the office, you should first make sure that they are safe. So when building, make sure that you work closely with a professional fire engineering company so that you can ensure all the safety precautions are put in place in case of an emergency.

Get the windows in

No one wants to work in a dark, depressed looking office. If the area isn’t visually pleasing, your mind won’t be happy, and then you won’t be working to the best of your ability. Windows are essential because they bring in the natural light while giving you and your employees a view to look out from. This will decrease stress, and stimulate creativity, making the whole vibe of the office a better one.

Pop of color

Offices don’t have to be white, or cream, or beige! This is so common and so boring. Yes, lighter tones open up a space, especially if it’s not as big as you had hoped for, but that doesn’t mean all the walls have to be like that. Create a feature wall that has a pop of color and maybe even some artwork. And bring in the nature, it doesn’t just look and smell nice, it actually purifies the air and balances the humidity too.
