Queen Elizabeth II Hires The Palace’s First Black Equerry

Have you ever watched Queen Elizabeth and the royal family do something trailed by all of their assistants and wondered where all the black people were?

Well, you’ll wonder no more, now.

Because according to The Telegraph Major Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah has been appointed as the royal household’s first black equerry!

What is an equerry?

If you watched The Crown, you may remember the man who ran the Queen’s affairs for her and who was in love with Princess Margaret.

That’s the job of the equerry. (To support the monarch with all of her official needs, that is, not catching the eye of young princesses.)

Equerries have traditionally been military men, and Twumasi-Ankrah fits the bill there.
