Ty Dolla Sign has joined the list of artist featured on the #SongsFromScratch campaign by Yours Truly and Adidas Originals with “Play”. For those that are unfamiliar with this collaboration, the #SongsFromScratch project is just what the name implies. Each installment of this series includes a brand new song, original artwork, and a short film that allows the fans to visually experience the process of creating the track. Kehlani, Tory Lanez, Goldlink, Chet Faker, Chance the Rapper and Danny Brown are among those that have been chosen to collaborate on these unique projects. Two artist are seemingly pulled from the sky in regards to what the two have in common sound wise. The duo is then sent to a studio to create an original song by combining their musical master minds.
“Plays” is a combination of the raspy, gritty lyrics we expect from Ty Dolla $ign and a dark, piano-heavy production by Australia’s HWLS. The electronic beat producer is signed to Future Classic, along with electronic superstars Ta-Ku and Cashmere Cat. You can definitely hear the hip-hop influence in most of his work. TY$ and HWLS’ efforts certainly did not go in vain. This curated collaboration seems to mesh so effortlessly. HWLS’ detailed production accentuates Dolla $igns ability to melodically ride any beat.
