Complex Announces ‘ComplexCon’ Cultural Festival, and Pharrell Is Already On Board

Complex Media is bringing art, fashion, music, and food together to create its very own curated convention/festival this fall. They’re calling it ComplexCon, and Pharrell Williams and the contemporary artist Takashi Murakami have already joined the planning committee.  The whole thing reads like a hypebeast Coachella.

ComplexCon will take in California (at the Long Beach Convection Center) from November 5th to 6th and will include shopping, panels, art, food, style, sports, and live concerts. (But you’ll probably see less flower crowns and fringe and more Yeezy Boost-wearing cool kids decked out in rare Supreme.)  In a presentation Monday night, Complex announced that they have appointed Pharrell Williams as cultural director and host committee chair of the event.  “When ‘I am Other’ connected with [cofounder and chief branding officer] Marc Ecko and the Complex team, we were instantly aligned — we wanted to combine a little bit of all these elements and create a unique, new initiative,” said Pharrell.

While he handles bringing all of these mediums together, the contemporary artist Takashi Murakami will be in charge of ComplexCon’s brand identity.  Ticket prices for the event are surprisingly affordable — nowhere near Coachella’s. They’ll run you around $35 for one day or $60 for the whole weekend. But if you plan on sticking around for the nightly concerts, you’ll be paying an additional, yet-to-be-determined fee.  The lineup still up in the air, too. Complex told WWD that the schedule and list of performers will be updated throughout the summer.  The ComplexCon announcement comes right after Hearst and Verizon’s joint acquisition of the media company this past April.
