Why Golf Should be Your Favorite New Exercise

If you’ve never played golf, you might think that it’s boring. It’s not a fast game, there’s no contact, and you might think of it as something that you dad did, but that you’ve got no interest in. But, at the moment, many of us are looking for new hobbies, new exercises, and new ways to spend our time. We’re anxious and worried, we’re upset at how our lives have been turned upside down, and we’re keen for some normality. In this crazy time, golf should definitely be your new favorite exercise, here’s why. 

You Don’t Need to Be Good to Enjoy It

Golf can certainly be played competitively. It can be a tense competition if you want it to be. But it doesn’t have to be. You don’t have to be good at golf to enjoy it. It can be relaxed, calm, and enjoyable, even if you are awful at it.

Some sports can be very frustrating when you don’t do well. There are even some sports that you can’t play unless you reach a certain standard in training. Golf isn’t one of them. You can play socially, without any pressure to do well. 

It’s Great Exercise

Golf courses are huge! You’ll do more steps playing golf than you might going for a run. It’s also a great arm, shoulder, and oblique workout. Playing golf regularly can boost your strength and stamina, improve your cardio health, and help you to maintain a healthy weight. 

You Can Do It Alone

Golf is one of the few sports that you can play alone. You just need some clubs, such as fairway woods, a bag, and some shoes, and you are good to go. You don’t need to be a part of a team, which means that you don’t have to wait for other people to be free to play with you. 

But It Can Be Very Social

That said, you don’t have to play alone. Golf can be exceptionally social. You can play with friends, hold business meetings on the golf course, and even meet new people. 

Playing Golf is Very Relaxing

At the moment, if there’s one thing that we need more than anything, it’s a way to relax. You might be tired, stressed out, anxious, and worried about many different things, and you may have been feeling like this for a long time now. It’s exhausting. 

The good news is, golf isn’t just great exercise. It’s also an amazing way to unwind. Playing a round of golf gives you a chance to clear your mind and burn off some energy. It could help you to sleep and reduce your stress levels. 

It’s Easy to Practice Social Distancing

Right now, perhaps one of the most significant advantages of playing golf is that it is easy to maintain social distancing restrictions. Golf courses are massive, you can book sessions, you can easily stay away from people outside of your household, and you only need to touch your own clubs and balls.
