Why Tory Lanez New Mixtape – Chixtape 4 Takes You Back

By : Joann Emale

Take this journey with me. It’s 2005 and you’re getting fresh to death for the first day of school. Icy white forces popping, fellas have their  curls real tight,  and the ladies are rocking corn rows with the baby hairs slicked just right. You finesse through the day because you know after school, you are going to come home, cut on some 106 & Park, and turn into a web coder trying to updated your Myspace. It was the most carefree days of our youth and Lanez intricately takes us on this journey through the early 2000’s with Chixtape 4.  Channeling the likes of Pretty Ricky, Diddy, Ginuwine, R Kelly, Fat Joe, Mario, Aaliyah, and The Proud Family, Tory Lanez mesmerizes us and reminds us why we loved love songs back in the day.  Like most Tory Lanez records, this young man delivers a story that encompasses sex, love,  and relationships of a 20 something year old in today’s day and age.  True to the Toronto music culture, Lanez delivers sample after sample of these black classics with a updated vibe.  Collaborating with Play Picasso and CoopChardonnay on several of the tracks, this production team infuses Lanez sultry voice incredibly on this tape.

Here are the Culture Supplier Top 5 Tracks:

5:  Whats Luv (Feat. Nyce) (Prod. By Tory Lanez x Play Picasso)

If the intro beat to this song didn’t get you rocking, you can’t sit with us here at CS! This was a perfect throwback to get you grooving after the softer ballad Just A Friend.

4: Slow Grind (Feat. Jacquees) (Prod. By Tory Lanez x Play Picasso)

This skating rink classic was definitely a great beginning to an awesome Chixtape. Sampling Pretty Ricky’s hit, “Grind On Me”, Slow Grind was medley of sexy rifts and innuedos

3: Aaliyah (Prod. By Play Picasso x C Sick)

Any record that pays respect to baby girl is an instant hit here at Culture Supplier. Besides being the final track on the album, Aaliyah heavily influenced this tape and popular culture in Toronto. So it’s only right this track is top five.

2: Need a Girl (Prod. By Play Picasso x Tory Lanez x CoopChardonnay)

Perfect track to pay homage to the Bad Boy family! Definitely took me back to the Bad Boy Reunion tour this summer. Vibes felt all throughout this record with production going through the roof.

1: Proud Family (Prod. By Tory Lanez x Play Picasso x CoopChardonnay)

I always jammed The Proud Family theme song as a young one, but to really hear the melody play so well into Tory Lanez story made this a number one banger at CS!
