New Play in Dallas “Soul Purpose” Debuts in Apr. 27 – 29 at BAAL

Soul Purpose, a Dallas-based stage play, written by Chericia Curtis and T.K. Henderson, and produced by seven-time best-selling author and award-winning international speaker Cheryl Polote-Williamson, will debut at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters’ (“TBAAL”) Naomi Bruton Theatre from April 27 through April 29.

Led by an all-star round-up of locally influential women, Soul Purpose is a story of empowerment, encouragement, and inspiration told vividly through the lives of five strong and powerful African-American women. Each woman has a unique struggle, yet by forging a bond and enveloping sisterhood, the spiritual tie between them all is one that proves unbreakable.

“We are thrilled to be bringing Soul Purpose to The Black Academy of Arts and Letters in late April,” Executive Producer Cheryl Polote-Williamson said. “We’re doing five shows over three days so that everyone has an opportunity to see it. This is not just a play, this is a movement – a soul movement, because every soul has a purpose.”

Audience members will be able to see mirror images of themselves through the lives of the women, and immediately resonate with the spirit of the play. In the end, the women find that their struggles do not define them, but how they overcome them as the true testament to their soul and to their purpose. For those that have ever felt betrayed, abandoned, lost, hopeless, or in despair, Soul Purpose will leave them uplifted and ready for impact.

In a recent radio segment, 1040AM host Bishop Eli Jacobs remarked after attending a Soul Purpose rehearsal, “Have you ever been to a play where you get a breakthrough? I felt realness. In this play you can learn so much. This is one of the best plays I’ve ever [seen].”

The play will feature cast appearances from an EMMY Award-Winning recording artist (Cecelia Godbolt), another national gospel recording artist (Virlinda Stanton), a father-son duo (Kenny Kaye and son), a Food Network star and Comedian (Michael Prince), and many more.

Soul Purpose debuts on April 27th at 7 p.m. at TBAAL’s Naomi Bruton Theatre (1309 Canton St., Dallas), with repeat performances on April 28th at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and on April 29th at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. General Admission is $30 and $VIP is $65. For groups of 5 or more people, General Admission is $25. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster here.
