More than 90 percent of the online population speaks emoji. When you talk about careers like detectives, and police officers, you usually see emoji like a man with a magnifying glass and a policeman. Female emoji, however, are limited to a girl in a wedding veil, nails being polished, a crown, and a girl with scissors in her hair.

That’s about to change. Google’s Unicode Emoji Subcommittee just introduced new female professional emoji that better represent working women and their careers. The 11 newly added professional emoji will be available in both male and female options with various skin tones.

With all the options, there will be more than 100 new emoji to choose from, including factory worker, mechanic, office worker, scientist, singer, and teacher. Unicode is also updating 33 existing emoji with male and female versions, so users can select from a female or male runner or a man or woman getting a haircut.

Google says the new emoji are part of a bigger effort to represent women in technology and inspire young girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math
