The poem was inspired by a poet named Doc Luben.
Based on the name, the listener creates their own interpretation of which lines are meant for suicide notes, which lines are meant for love letters and which lines could be included in either one. There are some lines that also include personal anecdotes that give insight into the mindset that the writer was in and provides background and depth for how she’s come to this specific point.
