Your childhood is about to get a lot better because, according to reports, the folks over at Cartoon Network are adding a fourth, black Powerpuff girl. While Cartoon Network has yet to formally announce the new character, fans went into a frenzy online when South African singer and dancer, Toya Delazy, made the announcement on Twitter
AND JUST LIKE THAT, I BECAME A POWERPUFF GIRL 😆😆😆🇿🇦
Much love to my @cartoonnetwork for trusting me with this epic job 💋❤️#lifegoals pic.twitter.com/ZshJT8VWR0— ToyaDelazy (@ToyaDelazy) September 7, 2017
If you don’t know who Delazy is, born Latoya Nontokozo Buthelezi, she’s pretty incredible. Raised by a single mother who later died in a car accident, she got her break when performing at a live show. Producer Markus Els then approached her about recording some songs and the rest is history. She since has released two albums under Sony Music Africa and has her own label, Delazy Entertainment.
The Powerpuff Girls will return to our televisions Sunday, September 17 with a five-part movie event titled, The Powerpuff Girls: Power of Four at 5:30/4:30c on Cartoon Network.
