Are You Slowing Down to Enjoy Life ?

There use to be an old saying that went “Wake up and smell the coffee” but today allow me to say “Slow down and smell the coffee”.  It basically means stop rushing around, pay attention and enjoy the things in life.

The last few days I had the opportunity to take a few days off work.  It took me some time to slow down and enjoy the down time.  I’m so use to getting up every day and maneuvering my way through traffic to get to work, going to meetings, checking my phone and e-mails, trying to get off early enough to make church gatherings and attend various social functions and I even find myself making plans and worrying about tomorrow even before tomorrow gets here. However this morning things were a little different.

I got up, poured me some coffee and went outside and sit on this bench in the front of the house.  It was then that I remembered what the Psalmist said in 46:10a, “ Be still, and know that I’m God…  I had always looked at this verse as help in times of trouble but today God says “ Be still and know me by observing me through creation.

As I sat still on that bench I noticed the beautiful flowers that had bloomed on the crepe myrtle tree.  I could hear the sweet singing of the birds in the morning time.  I heard crickets and noticed the little ants hard at work.  The white clouds appeared as if they were strategically hung on the blue sky and I saw all of that in only a few minutes.  We are constantly surrounded by the handy works of God but we’re often times too busy running around trying to satisfy this flesh that we miss the blessings of God.

Some people are so busy that they don’t even have time to accept the free gift of salvation God has provided.  Even though salvation is free to mankind it cost Jesus his life.  He gave his life at Calvary but He got up from that grave on the third day and defeated death offering us the way to eternal life.

This week don’t get so busy that you overlook the wonderful things God has given this world, especially the way to eternal life.  Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father but by me.  Slow down a little and appreciate the great and mighty works of our Holy and Righteous God.  Meanwhile, I think I’ll have another cup of coffee.

Be Blessed!
